Last night, as my wife lay sleeping beside me, I received a Facebook notification. A woman had sent me a friend request. Curious, I accepted it and sent a message, "Do we know each other?"
She replied almost instantly, "I heard you got married, but I still love you."
Stunned, I realized she was an old friend from years ago. Her profile picture showed her looking beautiful, and for a moment, I felt a rush of old memories. But then I looked at my wife, sleeping soundly after a long, exhausting day.
Watching her sleep, I was struck by how secure she felt with me. She had left her parents' home, where she had spent 24 years surrounded by her family. When she was upset, her mother was there to comfort her. Her siblings could always make her laugh. Her father would bring her favorite treats. Yet, she chose to trust me with her heart and her life.
These thoughts filled my mind, and I grabbed my phone and pressed "BLOCK."
I turned back to her and lay down by her side. I'm a man, not a boy. I vowed to be faithful to her, and I intend to keep that promise. I will always fight to be a man who doesn't cheat on his wife, who doesn't destroy a family.
As I drifted off to sleep, I knew I had made the right choice. Love, trust, and commitment are the foundation of our life together, and I am determined to honor that every day.
